CrossFit Virilis March Member of the Month: Nydia Cabra!

Nydia Cabra is our CrossFit Virilis Member of the Month for March! We just love having her in the gym. She has such a great spirit and is always there to give it her all and learn how to do what’s next. Her progress and no-quit mentality are awesome qualities she embodies.

Get to know all about Nydia:

How long have you been CrossFitting?
Since July 2018.

What’s your favorite movement?
NOT burpees… I love to squat.

What’s your favorite workout?

Anything witih squats – back squat or front squat. Not too sure about the overhead squat. 😉

How does CrossFit impact you on a daily basis?

It makes me feel stronger and more balanced. Before I started, I actually had some falls due to poor core control. That is no longer an issue. It’s a huge stress reliever.

How has CrossFit Virilis impacted you long-term?
It has helped me with stress. I am slowly gaining charge of my health and weight goals. It’s happening.

What would you do today if you knew you could not fail?
Skydive. Just kidding. Realistically, run a 5K or a half marathon, write a book, or travel around the world.

If you could have any meal every day for the rest of your life, what would it include?
Tortilla soup, with lots of avocado.

What is your favorite spot to hang out in Cibolo (or surrounding area)?
Actually, I don’t spend any time in Cibolo – just CrossFit Virilis.  I’m in Schertz and Selma the majority of my free time, either at home, Journey Fellowship, or Garcia’s, because of their tortilla soup…(but not as often because I have to try and be healthier).

Choose a movie title for the story of your life.
I could not think of any movie title.  My husband said “The Healer.”

If you could step in a teleport for a day and go to any place and time in history, where and when would you travel to?
One of my favorite historical people is Joseph (from Genesis, coat of many colors, etc.). He went through so much undeserved stuff (I was going to say another word, but don’t know who will be reading).  He came through it all with his head held up high, focused on his goals, and giving credit where credit was due. In Genesis 50:20, it says, “You intended to harm me, but God intended it all for good. He brought me to this position so I could save the lives of many people.”   I tend to go back to that when things get hard. There is a purpose for all trials. And I can’t doubt that the purpose is for the greater good.

What’s the best thing about your job?
The students, hands down.

What are you most thankful for?
God, my boys (Miles and Parker), and the opportunities I face each day, even when they are a challenge.  It means that I’ve been given another day to try and do right.

If you knew someone who had reservations about trying CrossFit, what’s the one thing you would say to encourage them?
I used to be anti-CrossFit, but what I have seen, especially at CrossFit Virilis in Cibolo, is that everyone is welcome and everyone can find a way to succeed. No two people in the program are alike. I love how each person is celebrated for who they are and what they can achieve personally. Everyone is accepted as they are, and who they are is treated as something special.

Anything else you’d love to add?
Thank you for the support.
