Every year, athletes near and far lace up their shoes, chalk their hands, and collectively hold their breath for one of the most magical times in CrossFit: The CrossFit Open. Whether you’re brand new or have been chasing fitness milestones for years, the Open is your invitation to step into something bigger than a regular workout and explore just how strong, fearless, and capable you really are.
The Open is a three-week global competition where one workout is announced each week and CrossFitters everywhere, from rookies to seasoned competitors, tackle it together. Workouts drop on Thursday afternoons, and you have until Monday afternoon to complete them and submit your scores if you’re officially registered.
At CrossFit Virilis, we make a party out of it with Friday Night Lights the night after the announcement. Friday Night Lights is a community celebration where we cheer each other on, tackle the workout, and share laughs and high-fives. On those Open Fridays, regular classes are paused so everyone can take part. If you can’t make the evening, there’s open gym in the morning where you can still do the workout and soak up the energy.
New to CrossFit? Fantastic. The Open has different categories so everyone can participate:
The Open isn’t just workouts. It’s transformation. It’s community. It’s that moment you surprise yourself. For me, the Open was magical last year. Just 2 weeks before the Open, I got my first chest-to-bar pull-up. I worked it, believed in it, and then during the Open I hit 11 chest-to-bars in the workout, something I didn’t think was in my wheelhouse before that moment.
Years earlier, it was the Open where I PR’d my thruster in front of my CFV fam. Those “firsts” don’t happen in a vacuum. They happen in the shared space of challenge, support, and just showing up. That’s why we chose our theme this year: Harry Potter. Like Harry stepping into the unknown, a bit unsure if he’s ready, the Open pushes us into situations where we discover the strength we didn’t know we had and maybe even unlock a little magic along the way. ✨

Important Note:
If you’re officially registered for the Open and want your score validated for the global leaderboard, your workout must be judged by an official judge who has completed the CrossFit judged course. If you’re just signed up for our in-house Friday Night Lights, you don’t need an official judge!
