Just shy of a year into her journey, Anna has not only built strength and confidence, but has also become a cornerstone of our 6:15 AM crew. Whether it’s her love for a good AMRAP, her signature push press power, or the way she lifts others up alongside her, Anna brings heart, hustle, and humility to every class. Her story is one of growth, grit, and rediscovering what’s possible when you're surrounded by a community that believes in you. 1. How long have you been doing CrossFit?
I have been doing CrossFit since July 15 2025. So just shy of a year.
2. What's your favorite workout?
AMRAPs are my favorite kind of workout. The energy in the gym during those sessions that really pushes me. Even though everyone’s working on their own goals, doing it alongside my 615ers creates this awesome sense of camaraderie that keeps me coming back.
3. What's your favorite movement?
The push press is hands down my favorite movement in CrossFit. There’s something really satisfying about the combination of strength, speed, and control it requires. It’s one of those movements that feels powerful every time like I’m channeling all my energy into one solid, explosive motion. Hitting a heavy push press always gives me a confidence boost and reminds me of how capable my body really is.
4. Why do you do CrossFit?
I do CrossFit because I honestly love it. I’ll admit, I was pretty hesitant at first, I’d had some not-so-great experiences at other gyms, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. But that all changed when I found CrossFit Virilis during a tough time in my life. From the moment I walked in, the community made me feel seen, supported, and completely welcome. The atmosphere is so positive and uplifting, it pushes me to give my best every day.
The coaches are amazing. They genuinely care and are always there to help, encourage, and celebrate your wins, big or small. For the first time, I didn’t just feel like a gym member; I felt like part of a family. We cheer each other on, grow together, and I've built real friendships including my CrossFit bestie, Sarah Mossberger, who I know will be a lifelong friend.
CrossFit, for me, is so much more than a workout. It’s a lifestyle, a support system, and a big part of who I am now.
5. What meal could you eat every day for the rest of your life?
If I had to pick one meal to eat every day for the rest of my life, it would 100% be steak with mashed potatoes. There's just something about that combo that always hits the spot. A perfectly cooked steak juicy and full of flavor paired with creamy, buttery mashed potatoes. It’s the ultimate comfort meal. No matter how many times I have it, it never gets old.
6. What has CFV helped you do, achieve, overcome, etc?
I’ve overcome so much on this journey from injuries to setbacks and everything in between. CrossFit Virilis has truly helped me in ways I never expected. It’s not just about getting stronger physically (though that’s definitely been a big part); it’s also given me my life back mentally and emotionally. I started at CFV a year ago during a time when I really needed something to hold onto. I never imagined I’d be where I am today. I feeling stronger, more confident, and more connected to myself than I’ve felt in a long time.
The community, the coaches, and the workouts have all played such a big role in that. They’ve pushed me when I needed it, supported me when I felt uncertain, and reminded me that I’m capable of so much more than I often think. It’s helped me rebuild not just my strength, but my belief in myself. CFV isn’t just a gym, it’s been a lifeline, a source of growth, and a second home.
7. If you could have dinner with anyone dead or alive, who would it be and why?
If I could have dinner with anyone, it would be my Pop Pop. I lost him when I was younger, but some of my fondest memories are of him, like the times he played pillows with me and made me laugh until my stomach hurt. Those moments were simple but so special. Now that I’m older, I realize how much more I would’ve loved to have had with him more time to learn from him, to hear his stories, and just to be around him. There’s so much I wish I could ask him, about life, family, and everything in between. Just having the chance to sit down, share a meal, and connect with him again would mean more than words can say. He’s someone I carry with me every day, and dinner with him would be a gift I’d cherish forever.
8. Top three favorite movies.
I don’t watch a lot of movies, but when I do, it’s usually action movies that grab my attention. My top three favorites are The Dark Knight, The Bourne Identity, and Saving Private Ryan. There’s just something about the mix of suspense, intense scenes, and great storytelling in those films that keeps me coming back.
9. What makes you the happiest?
What makes me the happiest is, without a doubt, my family. The support they’ve given me especially over the past year since I retired has been everything. Retirement was a huge life change, and honestly, it came with its own set of challenges and uncertainties. But having my family by my side made all the difference. Their encouragement, understanding, and unconditional love helped me navigate that transition with more ease than I ever expected.
Around the time my son was born, I started CrossFit, which became a big part of my life and fitness journey. My wife, especially, has been incredibly supportive through it all. Between late-night feedings and busy days with a newborn, she encouraged me to keep pushing myself, always cheering me on and making sure I had the time and space to focus on my health. Knowing I had her support made the difference between giving up and staying committed, and it’s been such a source of strength and motivation for me.
Having my family’s love and encouragement means everything. They’ve been my rock through every change, challenge, and achievement. Their belief in me keeps me going, and their presence fills my life with happiness and purpose.
10. Anything else you want to add about CFV, CrossFit, or yourself?
On a personal level, CrossFit has been a game-changer for me. It has taught me discipline the kind that goes beyond just showing up for workouts, but also staying committed when things get tough or when life tries to pull me off course. Patience has been another big lesson; progress doesn’t always come fast or easy, and learning to trust the process has helped me stay focused without getting discouraged. Setting clear, achievable goals has given me direction and purpose, turning what once felt like a hobby into a meaningful journey toward better health and well-being.
CrossFit has pushed me to prioritize myself in ways I hadn’t before. It’s not just about physical fitness; it’s about mental strength, self-care, and building habits that support a healthier lifestyle overall. Looking back at where I started, I’m really proud of the progress I’ve made whether it’s mastering a new movement, hitting a personal record, or simply feeling stronger and more confident in my day-to-day life.
But what excites me even more is where I’m headed. Every workout is a new challenge, and every challenge is an opportunity to grow. CFV isn’t just a gym to me, it’s a community where people encourage each other, a place that pushes me beyond my limits, and a space where I’m constantly evolving. It’s become a part of who I am, and I’m grateful for the journey it’s taken me on so far.
