There is a specific kind of dedication that comes with hitting the three-year mark in a fitness journey. Since March 2023, Steve Lavelle has been a constant presence at CrossFit and for the last year at CrossFit Virilis, proving that longevity in the gym is built on a foundation of discipline and a great attitude. For Steve, CrossFit isn't just about the movements; it’s about maintaining a sharp mind and a body that is ready for whatever life throws his way.
Steve’s transformation over the last year has been nothing short of impressive—especially on the pavement. A year ago, a 100-meter run felt like a massive hurdle; today, he’s successfully completing 1200-meter runs and pushing his limits further every week. Whether he’s working through his favorite barbell movements or tackling a high-variety WOD (as long as there aren't any burpees involved!), Steve embodies the "Whole Life Approach" we value so much here in Cibolo.
We are honored to have Steve as part of our community. Get to know more about his journey, his favorite barbell lifts, and the "why" that keeps him coming back to the box!
1. How long have you been doing CrossFit?
March 2023! I just hit 3 years.
2. What's your favorite workout?
I am enjoying different variety of workouts, can't think of a particular one, but I would have to say my favorite would be any workout that does not include burpees.
3. What's your favorite movement?
Push Press or any of the barbell movements.
4. Why do you do CrossFit?
I have realized that fitness is a very important part of life and that we need to keep ourselves fit and mentally sharp, and I think CrossFit does that. Also, the structure, coaches and the community of CrossFit.
5. What meal could you eat every day for the rest of your life?
Steak and potatoes, but after a recent medical discovery I will have to rethink this.
6. What has CFV helped you do, achieve, overcome, etc?
A year ago, I could barely run 100 meters, but my running has improved and I have, recently, completed a 1200-meter run.
7. If you could have dinner with anyone dead or alive, who would it be and why?
My Mom - she passed away unexpectedly in 2011 and a chance to have dinner and be able to talk to her would be amazing.
8. Top three favorite movies.
Apocalypse Now
American Graffiti
Forrest Gump
9. What makes you the happiest?
Spending time with family, watching a sunset, a good meal and wine at a nice restaurant.
10. Anything else you want to add about CFV, CrossFit, or yourself?
As the shirt states "Nutrition & Fitness saves lives" and I consider myself a walking testament because I've had 2 significant medical events in the past 3 years, and I have been able to recover from those events because of CrossFit. I am glad my son talked me in to joining this community.
