This month, we’re excited to spotlight Anthony, one of our CFV members whose journey perfectly captures what makes CrossFit — and CrossFit Virilis — so special. From the first rep to the last, Anthony has discovered just how capable he really is, tackling workouts that once seemed intimidating, like Olympic lifts, rope climbs, and bar work, and even finishing Fight Gone Bad with a huge sense of accomplishment. What keeps him coming back isn’t just the challenge of the WODs, but the fact that CFV is a place where every class works all parts of fitness — strength, endurance, and mobility — in a way that’s both fun and rewarding. Beyond the workouts, it’s the community, support, and camaraderie that makes CFV feel like a second home, a place to push limits safely, grow stronger, and even share a laugh or two while doing it. From favorite meals to motivational moments and personal milestones, Anthony’s story is a testament to how CrossFit can transform not just your body, but your confidence, mindset, and connection to others.
1. How long have you been doing CrossFit?
3 years.
2. What's your favorite workout?
Finishing Fight Gone Bad always gives me a huge sense of accomplishment after, haha.
3. What's your favorite movement?
Power Cleans.
4. Why do you do CrossFit?
Mainly to stay healthy and not fail my Army PT tests, haha. I went with CrossFit specifically because I tried other activities (whether it was a traditional gym, martial arts, or run club) and thought they were fun, but I always felt like I was sacrificing a part of my strength, cardio/endurance, mobility triangle; or had to spend extra time outside of those activities to make up for it. As intimidating as it initially seemed, Crossfit ended up being the perfect workout where I am consistently working on all parts of the triangle, sometimes all in the same class.
5. What meal could you eat every day for the rest of your life?
Smashburger with fries.
6. What has CFV helped you do, achieve, overcome, etc?
CFV has really helped me discover how capable I really am and how much I've underestimated myself. CFV and its community consistently but comfortably challenges me and reminds me that I can achieve more than I think I can. Prior to starting, I would've never even attempted olympic lifting but now I'm super comfortable hitting cleans or snatches, climbing ropes, bar work, and have gutted through some of the most intense workouts of my life.
7. If you could have dinner with anyone dead or alive, who would it be and why?
My dad so I could pick his brain a little more and catch up.
8. Top three favorite movies.
Dumb and Dumber, Idiocracy, and Band of Brothers.
9. What makes you the happiest?
My family and/or quiet moment with a cup of coffee.
10. Anything else you want to add about CFV, CrossFit, or yourself?
CrossFit is awesome in general but CFV, specifically its coaches, and the community is amazing. I haven't really experienced another CrossFit gym quite like it and it's hard to articulate in words why but I don't ever see coming to class as a chore. I actually look forward to class because I basically get to hang out with my friends while we all build a better version of ourselves/trauma bond over the workouts, haha.
