CrossFit Virilis, May 2025 Member of the Month: Sarah Mossberger

MAY MEMBER OF THE MONTH

When Sarah Mossberger first stepped into CrossFit Virilis in June 2024, she wasn’t sure what to expect—especially when it came to running. But with consistency, encouragement, and a little love for burpees and wall walks, she discovered strength far beyond the physical. Today, she’s not only crushed her first half marathon but also grown in confidence, connection, and self-belief. As an educational consultant for the Texas Deafblind Project, Sarah spends her days empowering others—yet here at CFV, she’s found a space that reminds her she’s just as worthy of that same encouragement. This is her story: one of grit, growth, and the power of feeling truly seen.

1. How long have you been doing CrossFit?

Since June (I think) 2024.

2. What's your favorite workout?

Anything that involves running!

3. What's your favorite movement?

Wall walks or burpees.

4. Why do you do CrossFit?

While I don't always enjoy the WOD in the moment, hehe, especially those with wall balls or heavy lifting, I love the way I feel after the workout - not just because I feel stronger and have all the good brain chemicals going, but also because of the friendships I have made within our gym family...

5. What meal could you eat every day for the rest of your life?

Papas rancheras breakfast tacos with cheese.. pizza.. anything with cheese, really. I might have a problem with dairy, lol.

6. What has CFV helped you do, achieve, overcome, etc?

Both the people AND the coaches at CFV have helped me to become more confident in myself - as an athlete, but also as a friend and all around human.  Coach Eric, T, and my CF besties, like Anna, have helped encourage me with my running - and since joining the gym I have gone from not being able to run a mile without stopping, to completing my first half marathon and finishing in my goal time.

7. If you could have dinner with anyone dead or alive, who would it be and why?

My dad. He passed away 8 years ago and I miss him terribly - I would love to be able to tell him about all the things I've done and experienced in my life since he left.

8. Top three favorite movies.

I'm not really a huge movie person - but three movies I always enjoy watching are The Wedding Singer, The Craft, and Practical Magic.  I always like a good vampire or scary movie.

9. What makes you the happiest?

My job. I really love my job (educational consultant for the Texas Deafblind Project) and the work that I do with students who are deafblind, their sensory teams, and their families...  Also - being outside hiking, camping, and exploring by myself, with my dogs, and/or with my friends.

10. Anything else you want to add about CFV, CrossFit, or yourself?

I just can't add enough how much CFV has impacted/changed my life for the better.. and it's not just because you asked me this question, lol.  CrossFit itself has taught me so much about my capacity to do hard things - that I'm stronger mentally and physically than I ever thought - but, I dont think I would have stayed with it without the amazing community of support that CFV specifically offers.  From Anna messaging to tell me she can't wait to see me tomorrow at the WOD because it's a partner WOD (or something Eric will likely let us do AS partners, hehe), to Jamie messaging me with excitement after she RX'd some beast of a WOD - to high fives and fist bumps when you're trying not to vomit post-WOD ... I have always felt, from day one when Helen was super nice to me at my very first class, like there is a place for me at CFV and I'm valued as a person, just the way I am.  And that's what makes CFV so amazing.
