CrossFit Virilis, August 2025 Member of the Month: Carlos Garcia

AUGUST MEMBER OF THE MONTH

When Carlos first stepped into CFV a little over two years ago, he was simply looking for a way to stay healthy, keep up with his kids, and feel better about himself. But over time, CrossFit became something deeper—a safe haven where he could escape the noise of the world, relieve stress, and dedicate an hour entirely to himself. Along the way, he’s turned weaknesses into strengths, transforming his once least-favorite movement—overhead snatches—into a skill he’s proud of, and finally conquering pull-ups after years of work. But Carlos’s story is about more than just fitness. It’s about resilience, gratitude, and the power of community. The coaches and members at CFV have been there for him through some of life’s hardest moments, giving him not only physical strength but emotional support when it mattered most. In this interview, Carlos opens up about the influence of his late grandfather, the workouts that push him the hardest, the foods he can never say no to (hint: tacos), and the people and passions that make his life full. His journey is a reminder that CrossFit isn’t just about lifting weights—it’s about lifting each other up.

1. How long have you been doing CrossFit?

I've been doing CrossFit for a little of 2 years now, I believe.

2. What's your favorite workout?

My favorite workout, mhm I don't know, but I do enjoy workouts that include cardio and challenging ones like the The Murph.

3. What's your favorite movement?

My favorite movements are rowing and lifting.

4. Why do you do CrossFit?

I do CrossFit for many reasons. It started as a way to maintain a healthy lifestyle to keep up with my children and feel better about myself. Over time, it’s become so much more than that. CrossFit has become my safe space a place where I can disconnect from the world, relieve stress, and dedicate 60 uninterrupted minutes to focus entirely on myself.

5. What meal could you eat every day for the rest of your life?

I can always eat TACOS and TORTAS!

6. What has CFV helped you do, achieve, overcome, etc?

CFV has helped me achieve so many goals, including improving my overhead squats and snatches which used to be my least favorite movements, and finally being able to do pull-ups. More importantly, the coaches have supported me through one of the most difficult times in my life. Their encouragement, presence, and belief in me made a huge difference, and I’m truly grateful for everything they’ve done.

7. If you could have dinner with anyone dead or alive, who would it be and why?

If I could have dinner with anyone, it would be my grandfather. He passed away in 2002, but he played a major role in shaping who I am. He was the reason I came to America and set the standard for the kind of person I strive to be. With my father not being present in my life, my grandpa stepped in as a father figure. If I had the chance to sit with him again, I’d tell him how much I love and miss him. I’d show him the man I’ve become one I hope he’d be proud of and I’d introduce him to his great-grand kids, who I know he would have absolutely adore.

8. Top three favorite movies.

Avengers Endgame, The Prestige, and The Water Boy.

9. What makes you the happiest?

My kids make me the happiest and they are my world. CrossFit, soccer, and volleyball also make me happy in different ways.

10. Anything else you want to add about CFV, CrossFit, or yourself?

Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I’m incredibly grateful for each and every one of you. Your support, encouragement, and dedication have not only helped me grow physically but have also made a lasting impact on my life. CFV has become more than just a gym it’s a place where I’ve found strength, confidence, and community. Through every workout, every challenge, and every small victory, you’ve been there pushing me, believing in me, and reminding me of what I’m capable of. Thank you for creating such a positive and uplifting environment. I’m truly thankful for all the coaches and the heart you put into everything you do. You’ve changed my life in more ways than I can express, and I’m proud to be part of this community.
