CrossFit Virilis, June 2026 Member of the Month, Matilde Tavares

JUNE MEMBER OF THE MONTH

Every month, we get the opportunity to highlight someone who represents what CFV is all about and Matilde is exactly that. Her journey is a reminder that progress isn’t about being the loudest in the room or the fastest on the leaderboard, but about showing up, trusting the process, and continuing to grow one step at a time.

From the moment she joined, Matilde has leaned into the challenge of CrossFit with a quiet determination that’s impossible to miss. Her story is one of building confidence, pushing past self-doubt, and discovering just how strong she’s capable of becoming and we’re so excited to share it with you.

1. How long have you been doing CrossFit?

2 and a 1/2 years.

2. What’s your favorite workout?

Anything with longer running time, because I’m actually good at it.

3. What’s your favorite movement?

Squats and Power Cleans.

4. Why do you do CrossFit?

I like to exercise and feel strong. CrossFit has allowed me to do both and take the boredom out of traditional exercise for me. Also as person of Faith, I feel incredibly blessed to be able to move my body in the challenging ways of CrossFit and I feel like I am honoring Jesus Christ by taking care of my body.

5. What meal could you eat every day for the rest of your life?

Fries and fried chicken or fish.

6. What has CFV helped you do, achieve, overcome, etc?

CFV has helped me overcome my self doubt and hesitation to push myself. The coach’s belief in me has helped me dial in to do movements correctly and push myself in the hard workouts.

7. If you could have dinner with anyone dead or alive, who would it be and why?

My grandmother, I am named after her and she died when my mother was 7. I would like to meet her and ask her about her life.

8. Top three favorite movies.

Moana, the first Transformers movie and I don’t really know, I like a lot of movies.

9. What makes you the happiest?

Being at home on the couch, watching movies or TV with my family.

10. Anything else you want to add about CFV, CrossFit, or yourself?

I’m so happy that I joined this gym but one of the things I struggled with was the cost. I’m really frugal so I battled with myself about the cost to join.  As a mom, I don’t hesitate to spend money on my kids needs and wants, so why not spend some on myself? I remember Coach Roz told me that it’s an investment I’m making in myself she was right!!
