CrossFit Virilis January Member of the Month: Dawn Hinckley

How long have you been CrossFitting?

I joined Central Coast Crossfit in January of 2012 as a committed member since then I’ve stopped , started and restarted this journey of fitness. I discovered CFV 2019 is think it may have been 2018.

Favorite movement?

I enjoy lifting the most – I feel strong and empowered! Second would be rowing.

Favorite workout?

The one I can complete … I don’t have a favorite nasty girl or Hero WOD.

How does CrossFit impact you on a daily basis?

CF empowers me, reminds me I am capable and humbles me as I struggle mentally or physically. How has CrossFit Virilis impacted you long-term (well, as long as you’ve been doing it)? CFV has been a strong and yet gentle reminder that I am welcome here , my effort is worth it and it’s possible to gain back balance and momentum of a healthier lifestyle. If I get through the roll-up door – we can figure out the rest together to keep moving forward with my goal to be more strong , to lose weight and manage a considerable battle of depression.

What would you do today if you knew you could not fail?

Maybe a Spartan event or another local CF competition.

How would your best friend describe you in three words?

Charismatic, Loyal, Caring

If you could have any meal every day for the rest of your life, what would it include?

Hearty soup/stew and ice cream ( not together obviously)

Favorite spot to hang out in Cibolo/Schertz/SA (or surrounding area)?

Small family based boutique businesses are my preference otherwise an outdoor experience driving to the coast , countryside – small town Texas.

Choose a movie title for the story of your life.

#plottwist #greatbutnotasplanned

If you could step in a teleport for a day and go to any place and time in history, where and when would you travel to?

Hmmm, I’d like to spend time with Florence Nightingale or Clara Barton, perhaps more realistically the nurses that served on D-Day caring for some of the Greatest Americans ! It would be an honor.

What’s the best thing about your job?

I drive improvement in our military healthcare system, some of my innovative ideas have shaped improvements in harm levels in our military treatment facilities.

What are you most thankful for?

My family- our values, work ethic and companionship.

What gives you the motivation to get up and get in the gym each day?

To know that I am worth the effort.
