CrossFit Virilis August Member of the Month: Ricky Barela

Ricky Barela is our CFV Member of the Month for August! He’s been working hard since he stepped foot in the gym. His fiance, Linda, has now joined in the fitness fun, too, because of the great influence of Ricky!

Get to know all about Ricky ~ keep reading:

How long have you been doing CrossFit?
I’ve been cross fitting for 7 months.

What movements do you like the most?
I enjoy different movements like box jumps, squat cleans, and others that cause me to lay down after the workout.

What is your favorite CrossFit workout?
Murph, for sure, has been my favorite workout. To do something as small as a workout to honor someone who has made the ultimate sacrifice for each and every American is well worth it.

How has CrossFit impacted you on a daily basis?
CrossFit has honestly pushed me to my limits and made me a better employee, father, and fiance to my fellow CrossFitter, Linda Martinez.

How has CrossFit impacted you long-term?
It has made me a more patient and positive person, and I feel a lot better, healthwise, than I did prior to starting CrossFit.

What would you do if you knew you could not fail?
I probably would have or join the service. I always look back and feel I could have served this country well.

If you could only have one meal every day for the rest of your life, what would it include?
Oh man, probably steak and shrimp and of course a tall beer.

What’s your favorite place to hang out in Cibolo/the surrounding area?
Definitely Virilis and probably Old Main Ice House.

Choose a movie title for the story of your life.
I guess I’ll go with Relentless.

If you could teleport anywhere, when/where would it be?
Probably the 1950s. I will always tell my fiance that I believe that was the era of no technology and stress-free living.

What’s the best thing about your job?
The hours and for the most part being off for most holidays.

What are you most thankful for?
My Harley. LOL, JK, babe. (I know she’ll see this.) No ~ honestly, my fiance and three boys. I wouldn’t have anything without them. They give me motivation to keep going every day.

If you knew someone who had reservations about doing CrossFit, what would you tell them?
If I could do it anyone can. And honestly that’s what I really tell everyone since I’ve started this journey.

Anything else you’d like to add?
Just wanna say thanks to Jobie, Tanya, & CFV. Y’all have definitely helped me a ton the last 7 months. And I will keep it going. Thanks, guys!!!
